Chase Rubin is a private financial investor. He lives in New York City’s East Village and frequently travels for business and pleasure.

Rubin has achieved success in his field thanks to his innate understanding of the stock market. Using his own personal forecasting system, he has been able to predict the movement of large and small companies alike. This has caused his portfolio to grow over the years.

Rubin’s background in economics and finance enabled him to make a good start as a private investor. Using his own money, he has been able to build his portfolio from its very beginnings to the robust state it is in today. His life hasn’t been easy; like many investors, he lost net worth in the 2008 market crisis. Since the rebound of stocks, he has continued to invest in strength, but he has increased the amount of research he puts into every stock purchase and sale.

Chase Rubin shares his knowledge via the Rubin Investment Newsletter and through his website, www.chaserubin.info. His advice can help novice investors, as well as those with more experience, build their portfolios and strengthen their net worth.

What do you do?

I am a private investor. My portfolio includes short-term stocks from large and small companies, as well as real estate and other investments.

How long have you been in business?

I first struck out on my own in 2005. The market was on an upswing, and I felt like I could use the wisdom I gained in my work for financial services firm for my benefit. I started with small seed investment and began investing conservatively at first.

Are there any unique challenges in your industry?

The market is so intimately tied to politics and the overall state of the world. Understanding the stock market also means understanding the economic forces behind it. It also pays to understand how social and political trends intersect with the market. Certainly, there have been many opportunities for the investor in today’s fiscal climate.

Do you have any particular challenges that you address?

The focus of my work is pinpointing which small companies will grow and which will succeed in the market. With this ability, I have been able to make small investments that grow as the companies expand, or as they are sold to larger companies.

How does technology impact your company?

Technology has everything to do with my business. I use forecasting software to help me track the trends in the market. I use online services to buy and sell stocks, even when I am away from my desk. Since so much of my business is done online, I can set my hours and make my life productive at any time.

Have you ever been to Miami?

I love Miami. It’s such a refreshing change of pace from New York.

What part of Miami?

I have spent quite a lot of time in South Beach. I’ve also been to Coral Gables and Coconut Grove recently.

Did you visit any particular locations including restaurants?

I had such a great time the last time I was in Miami. I love to cook and had my first job in a restaurant. My friends and I tried Amara at Paraiso, and we were blown away by the food and the atmosphere. I also love neighborhood spots like La Latina in Midtown.

Would you come back?

Absolutely. I’m already planning my next trip when I want to try even more new restaurants.

Was it a business or pleasure trip?

I was able to make it a pleasure trip, and I’m glad I did. A little time spent on the beach is a fantastic break from a long New York winter. I met up with some friends from Atlanta, and we had an incredible long weekend. It helped that New York got a ton of snow that weekend.

Where do you see yourself or your business in 5 years?

I hope to be doing exactly what I’m doing today. I may be pulling in some of my investments as I get closer to retirement age, as I advise my newsletter readers to do. I plan to retire early so I can devote my time to travel and to cook.

I’ve thought seriously about investing in a restaurant company, but I’d need to do quite a lot of research to decide which type of restaurant would be the best fit. Ideally, I’d like to stay in New York City, which is my home. You’ve tempted me into looking into Miami property to invest in.
